*As Fr Mbaka Cautions Tinubu over Nigerians’ Current Economic Woes
Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has written an open letter to President Bola Tinubu, expressing the disappointment and frustration of millions of Nigerians with the current state of the country.
Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka has also joined other prominent Nigerians in warning the federal government about the dangers of widespread protests and unrest due to the removal of fuel subsidies.
In his Sunday homily, Mbaka urged the government to reinstate the fuel subsidy, stating that its removal has only enriched governors while impoverishing the masses.
In the letter, Adams criticized the president’s handling of the economy, particularly the recent fuel price increase, which he described as “an attack on Nigerians.”
He also expressed concern about the rising insecurity across the country, the harassment of human rights activists, and the suppression of protests.
“Pitiably today, from the North to the South, East to the West, the rate at which Nigerians are being abducted and some killed, even after ransom was paid, it was as if these blood-thirsty maniacs have just been unleashed on Nigerians from the hottest part of hell.”, he lamented.
Adams reminded the president of his campaign promises and urged him to reverse the current trend, warning that the situation may trigger further hardship and crisis if not addressed.
The Aare Ona Kakanfo drew parallels between the current situation in Nigeria and the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany, cautioning against the dangers of authoritarianism.
According to Adams, “Your Excellency, do you remember an Austrian-German who became the Commander-in-Chief in Germany in 1933?
“Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician who was the dictator of Nazi Germany from 1933 until his suicide in 1945.
“Hitler, an elected democrat, quickly transformed a democratic republic into a constitutional dictatorship.
“The Fuhrer vowed to destroy democracy through the democratic process. And he did with the destruction of Germany in 1945.
“Before the destruction,
the Nazi leader disabled, then dismantled the Weimar Republic.”
The letter comes as Nigerians continue to grapple with the challenges of economic hardship, insecurity, and political repression. The Aare Ona Kakanfo’s intervention is seen as a call to action for the president to address the pressing issues facing the nation.
Mbaka advised President Bola Tinubu to consult experts to find solutions to the economic crisis and alleviate Nigerians’ suffering. He emphasized the need for leaders to work together, regardless of party affiliation, to prevent the impending danger.
Mbaka warned that if the government fails to address the issue, it will face severe consequences, citing the power of God’s prophecy. He stressed that the government must take immediate action to prevent widespread unrest and suffering among Nigerians.
