NMA Pledges Support for Government’s Healthcare Reform

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), under the leadership of President Professor Bala Mohammed Audu, has reiterated its dedication to assisting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration in reforming the healthcare system and attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for every Nigerian.

The Association announced this through a post on its official X account.

During a visit to the presidency, the NMA commended President Tinubu for his strategic initiatives that are tackling significant issues in the healthcare system. These initiatives encompass increasing training quotas for pre-service healthcare education, optimizing recruitment processes for health professionals, establishing a workforce migration policy, upgrading healthcare infrastructure to decrease medical tourism, broadening diagnostic and cancer care services, and improving primary care in partnership with state governments.

In addition, the NMA praised the increased insurance and healthcare funding for at-risk populations provided by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). The organization conveyed hope that these initiatives will greatly improve the quality of healthcare nationwide.

In a statement on behalf of the President, government officials highlighted President Tinubu’s dedication to improving healthcare and fostering a respectful and dignified workplace for health professionals in the country.

The statement emphasized, “We recognize the ongoing challenges and are dedicated to enhancing healthcare quality for Nigerians. We acknowledge the efforts of all health workers who are persevering despite the significant obstacles our country faces. Nevertheless, these challenges can be overcome if we prioritize the well-being of Nigerians and work together positively.”
