Task Force Arrests 6 Roadside Petrol Hawkers in Lagos

The Lagos State Task Force on Environment and Special Offences has arrested six individuals, including two women, for allegedly selling petroleum products illegally by the roadside.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, the arrests were made during a sweeping operation conducted at various locations, including Fadeyi, Maryland, Charity Bus Stop, and Airport Road.

The suspects were caught selling petrol to motorists at exorbitant rates, taking advantage of the current fuel scarcity in the state.

The task force chairman, CSP Adetayo Akerele, led the operations, emphasizing that the fuel scarcity was no excuse for miscreants to exploit residents.

Abdulraheem noted that the arrested suspects purchased large quantities of petrol in gallons and kegs to resell by the roadside, posing significant safety risks due to the highly inflammable nature of petroleum products.

“The arrested suspects’ practice not only burdens already struggling motorists but also poses significant safety risks due to the highly inflammable nature of petroleum products.

“We are committed to curbing these illegal activities and ensuring that the safety and well-being of the public are not compromised.

“The actions of these black market operators are not only cruel but also a severe threat to public safety, as the improper handling and storage of petrol could lead to catastrophic fire disaster,” he noted.

The agency said it’s committed to curbing these illegal activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public are not compromised.

Abdulraheem warned individuals or groups who connive with petrol stations to sell petroleum products illegally to desist or risk being arrested.
