Matawalle Discards Bandits’ Claims on Burnt Military Equipment, Orders Armed Forces Chiefs Relocate to Sokoto

The Ministry of Defence has dismissed recent claims by bandits who alleged they had seized military equipment in Kwashabawa, Zurmi local government area of Zamfara State.

According to the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, these claims are unfounded.

He stated, “The bandits have circulated videos of a stuck armoured vehicle, but the truth is different. The vehicle was abandoned for tactical reasons.”

In response to escalating banditry and terrorism in the Northwest, Matawalle has also instructed Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa and other senior military officials to relocate to Sokoto State.

“This relocation is a crucial part of our strategy to combat the persistent threat of banditry,” Matawalle added.

Sokoto State, the headquarters of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division, which oversees operations in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kebbi states, will be the focal point of intensified military efforts.

Recent banditry activities in the region have included the killing of a traditional ruler, highlighting the urgent need for increased security measures.

The Minister emphasised that the government is committed to restoring peace and security in the affected areas. “Our forces will not rest until we have eradicated these criminal elements,” Matawalle assured. The relocation and enhanced operations are designed to address and neutralise the ongoing threats effectively.
