The Edo State Government has confirmed one Mpox outbreak and eight suspected Cholera cases, as reported by Dr. Ojeifo Stephenson, the state’s Director of Public Health.
Speaking in a statement on Sunday, Dr. Stephenson stated, “Since January, we’ve identified 11 suspected cases in Edo State. We receive alerts for any suspected case, mobilise our team to collect samples, and conduct contact tracing.”
He further noted that, out of these cases, “eight were non-reactive while eight were reactive.”
Earlier, the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) highlights that children aged 0-5 years are predominantly affected by Mpox in Nigeria.
This year, 48 Mpox cases have been confirmed nationwide, with the most vulnerable group being young children.
Mpox spreads through contact with infected individuals or contaminated materials, underlining the need for vigilance and prompt reporting to health facilities.
