76-Year-Old Man Remanded over Alleged Rape of Teenager

A 76-year-old man, Akeem Muritala, was remanded in a correctional facility by a Family Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo state on Tuesday for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi ordered the case file to be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice and adjourned the case until October 23.

Prosecutor Insp Gbemisola Adedeji told the court that Muritala committed the offense in July in the Isale-Afa area of Ibadan and that he had confessed to the crime during police interrogation.

Adedeji stated that the offense violated Section 34 of the Child Rights Law 2006.
