16 Die on Ore-Ondo Highway as Passenger Bus Collide with Truck

A fatal devastating accident occurred on Tuesday night along the Ore-Ondo highway in Ajue, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, resulting in the loss of 16 lives.

A Toyota Hiace passenger bus, carrying 18 people, collided head-on with a heavy-duty truck, causing a massive fire that engulfed the bus. Three people survived the crash, but with severe injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the bus driver was speeding recklessly when attempting to overtake another vehicle, leading to a direct collision with the oncoming truck. The impact was so severe that it sparked an immediate fire, trapping many passengers inside the bus.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Samuel Ibitoye, confirmed the accident and attributed its cause to over-speeding and wrongful overtaking.

He emphasized the importance of defensive driving, obeying speed limits, and being aware of other vehicles’ movements on the road.

He said the rescue operation ended at 11:00 p.m., with only two individuals surviving the accident.
