NANS Condemns Abduction of 20 Medical Students, Call for Immediate Release

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has strongly condemned the recent abduction of over 20 medical and dental students from the University of Maiduguri and the University of Jos.

Africa Health Report, (AHR) reported that the abduction occurred in Otukpo, Benue State, around 5:30 PM, as the students were traveling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu.

NANS Senate President, Okunomo Henry Adewumi, in a statement demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the students. “This heinous act underscores the growing insecurity in our nation,” Adewumi stated, linking it to recent violence in Ondo State.

The student body has called on security agencies to secure the students’ safe return and increase efforts in vulnerable areas. “We urge the government to address these acts of violence with urgency and ensure the protection of educational institutions,” NANS added.

It also advocated for enhanced security measures, improved intelligence, and the prosecution of those involved.

They urged state governors to collaborate with federal authorities to tackle escalating security issues.
