The Department of State Services (DSS) said on Monday it has arrested some tailors suspected to be mass-producing Russian flag in Kano State, while the Service denied arresting a promoter of the #ENDBADGOVERNANCE.
This comes barely hours after the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa told journalists in Abuja, that those flying the Russian flag in Nigeria have committed treason. The defence chief spoke after a security meeting with President Bola Tinubu on Monday.
In a statement, the DSS said some of the sponsors of the hunger protest have also been detained.
“The DSS can confirm that Adaramoye Michael (aka Michael Lenin) is not in its custody,” the agency wrote on its X handle.
“Meanwhile, the Service has apprehended some tailors in Kano State responsible for making Russian flags being distributed in the area. Some of their sponsors have also been picked. An investigation is ongoing.”
The move came in the wake of some #EndBadGovernance protesters carrying Russian flags in several northern states. It is unclear why the demonstrations are holding onto the flags.
Earlier police authorities had arrested some persons suspected to be mass-producing the flags in Nasarawa State.
The demonstrators were spotted flying the flag while chanting songs in Hausa, and running through the streets in protest.
