HAPPENING NOW: Crackdown on Journalists Intensifies in Abuja as Hunger Protest Enters Day 3

Some Journalists covering the #ENDBADGOVERNANCE Hunger Protests in Abuja are being targeted by security operatives. Our Correspondent reports that chaos has erupted at Moshood Abiola Stadium as security forces opened Live ammunition on press men covering the protest.

“In a shocking escalation of violence, journalists covering a protest at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja were caught in a deadly crossfire when police, army, and DSS forces opened live ammunition on them”, Africa Health Report Correspondent said.

The assault, which resulted in damaged vehicles and several injuries among reporters, occurred at around 11 am on Saturday while protesters bled from bullet wounds and teargas canisters.

Before the violence erupted, a protest coordinator told Africa Health Report, “We are confused as to why the security personnel are shooting at us because we are peacefully protesting. The army was present and allowed us to stand here as the court sanctioned our peaceful protest. Now, the police have opened fire on us. Are they indirectly refusing us our right to protest? What is our crime?”

The confrontation underscores the escalating tensions between security forces and demonstrators, raising serious concerns about the state’s respect for press freedom and citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly.
