Nursing Mother with Baby Confronts Police as Teargas, Pepper Spray Rain on Protesters in Abuja

An angry protester holding up a baby has confronted the police officers at the Eagles Square in Abuja, after they fired canisters of teargas and pepper spray to dispersed protesters.

This is happened on Thursday, on the Day 1 of the nationwide hunger protest. Africa Health Report has learnt.

The police, it was gathered have stationed at the Eagles Square to avert any breakdown of law and order as the protesters started to arrive the venue.

“At about 10:30 am, police shot canisters after first firing warning non-lethal shots at the ground”, said an eyewitness.

“Following the warning shots”, it added, “things quickly escalated as other protesters joined the woman, confronting the policemen and daring them to shoot. In response, the police fired pepper spray, immediately followed by teargas canisters to disperse the protesters”. (With Agency Report)
