Edo, Ondo Elections: INEC Chairman Urges Timely Observer Upload

Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, on Tuesday, disclosed that only 56 organisations have uploaded details of 894 observers for the Edo State Governorship election, representing 33.6% of the expected 2,660 observers.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Yakubu who said the deadline for uploading is Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 6 pm, emphasised the importance of meeting the deadline to ensure timely distribution of accreditation tags to observers.

Regarding security for the upcoming Edo and Ondo state elections, Yakubu announced plans for a meeting with security agencies under the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES).

He highlighted the significance of security discussions, stating, “We are as concerned about the safety of candidates, agents, and supporters as we are about the security of our own officials, observers, journalists, service providers, and, above all, the voters.”
