Vox pop: The Protest is Necessary- Bashir Nasir (Media Practitioner)

To me the protest is necessary. It is meant to express their voices. It is not against the Nigerian State. I believe in the protest, and I think it is coming at the right time. Listen to the complaints by the citizens, especially our youths, across the country. it is the same concern everybody is expressing.  Hardship does not know religion or tribe. It is not about ethnicity. It is not about whether you are Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba. The only class of Nigerians that may not feel the hardship is the rich people. The poor and ordinary citizens are facing the worst hardship of lives, in Nigeria. And the truth is that the poor are majority in this country. Prices of essential necessities have gone beyond the reach of the poor man. So, why is Tinubu afraid of people coming out to protest and register their concerns. Does the government know how much transportation is? Does the government know how much rent is? Does the government know how much is a plate of Eba today? A bottle of mineral drink?

We are in democracy. It is the constitutional right of the citizens to protest in expressing their worry about the current economic situation in the country. Freedom of expression is a constitutional right.

The military is talking tough, Police IG is talking tough. DSS is intimidating the youths. What are they afraid of? #BadGovernance can’t be coloured. Tinubu should allow the protest. But, order the security to guard the protesters. That is my take
