FCT Deploys 4,200 Police Ahead of Nationwide Hunger Protest

In preparation for the upcoming nationwide protest against hunger and hardship, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has deployed 4,200 policemen across the capital.

The deployment includes explosive ordnance device experts stationed at strategic locations to ensure public safety and prevent any potential disruptions.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, in a statement issued on Friday, the proactive measures are aimed at protecting protesters and preventing the demonstrations from being hijacked by non-state actors.

Mrs. Adeh emphasised the importance of maintaining peace during the protest, stating, “The CP vows to resist all forms of violent protest and lawlessness.”

FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, warned against the destruction of public and private properties, emphasizing the need for peaceful demonstrations.

She urged residents to report any suspicious activities and assured that the police are prepared to maintain order during the protest period.

The nationwide protest, scheduled from August 1 to 10, 2024, seeks to address the hardships faced by Nigerian citizens.
