FCT Minister Bans August 1 Hunger Protest in Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that the FCT is not allowed to be used for the hunger protests planned for August 1st.

During a security meeting on Thursday, Wike stated to reporters that protests on August 1st will be prohibited in FCT.

He stressed that no protests will be permitted in the region.

The Minister highlighted that the day will be dedicated to honouring and awarding certificates to the Chairmen of the six Area Councils and traditional leaders.

Wike emphasized the importance of protesting within legal limits while acknowledging the citizens’ right to protest.

He urged Nigerians to unite and tackle the country’s issues together, recognizing the challenging times and advising patience.

Wike stated that despite facing numerous challenges in the FCT, they will not allow anyone to disrupt the peace and set them back.

Wike, in a previous visit to the Saburi community, advised residents against participating in hunger protests and encouraged them to remain patient as better times were ahead.

He promised improved security measures and announced plans to construct a police station in Saburi. Additionally, he urged the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council to establish a primary healthcare center in the community.
