JUST IN: US Secret Service Director Resigns Following Trump Assassination Attempt

US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned in the wake of the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.

Cheatle’s resignation comes after bipartisan pressure following the failure of the agency to prevent the attack on the Republican presidential candidate.

The 20-year-old gunman wounded Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on July 13, prompting widespread criticism of the Secret Service’s handling of the situation.

Cheatle’s resignation is seen as a response to the growing calls for accountability within the agency.

The incident has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the Secret Service in protecting high-profile individuals. President Trump has yet to comment on Cheatle’s resignation. (AFP)
