Economic Sabotage: Nigerian Navy Raids Oil Thieves’ Camp, Arrests 2 in Rivers

In a recent operation in Rivers State, the Nigerian Navy’s Quick Response Team, as part of Operation DELTA SANITY, engaged suspected crude oil thieves in a fierce firefight, resulting in the destruction of the criminals’ camp and the arrest of two individuals.

Naval Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, in a statement on Monday, detailed the successful mission, stating, “The operation resulted in a decisive victory as the criminals’ camp and boats were successfully destroyed.”

He explained that utilising drone surveillance for strategic advantage, the Navy personnel forced the suspects to retreat into the surrounding creeks, ultimately neutralising one suspect and apprehending two others who are currently undergoing investigation.

According to him, recovered items included two outboard engines (200 and 140 Horse Power) and 2 Motorola walkie-talkie radios amongst others.

He disclosed that the Operation DELTA SANITY, initiated by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla to combat crude oil theft in the Niger Delta Region, has seen significant progress, with numerous arrests and the deactivation of illegal refinery sites.

“The Nigerian Navy’s relentless efforts to maintain security in the maritime space serve as a stern warning to those engaging in illicit activities. Commodore Adams-Aliu emphasised, “Nefarious elements involved in Crude Oil Theft and other illegalities in Nigeria’s maritime space are warned to desist from such acts as the Nigerian Navy will stop at nothing to restore sanity and order in the Niger Delta Region.”
