Global Outage as Microsoft Takes ‘Mitigation Actions’ on Computer Systems

Microsoft is taking “mitigation actions” following a major outage that wreaked havoc on global computer systems on Friday, impacting various sectors worldwide.

The tech giant stated in a post on social media platform X, “Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions.”

It remains unclear if the outages are connected to the global disruptions.

The outage had significant repercussions, including grounded flights in the United States, disrupted television broadcasts in the UK, and impacted telecommunications in Australia.

According to reports, major US air carriers such as Delta, United, and American Airlines grounded all flights due to communication issues.

In Germany, flights were suspended at Berlin Brandenburg airport, causing delays and cancellations.

Spain’s airports experienced disruptions due to the IT outage, affecting several companies globally.

Hong Kong’s airport reported airline disruptions linked to the Microsoft outage.

The UK’s rail operator warned of potential train cancellations due to IT issues, while Sydney Airport in Australia faced delays with contingency plans activated.

Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator attributed the large-scale outage to a third-party software platform issue, ruling out hacker involvement.

The outage affected various sectors, with Sky News and Australian broadcaster ABC reporting disruptions.

Australian supermarket self-checkout terminals displayed error messages, and New Zealand banks and parliament computer systems reported issues.

Australian telecommunications firm Telstra suggested the outages were due to global software issues from Microsoft and cybersecurity company CrowdStrike.
