JUST IN: FG Won’t Backdown on 18 Years Admission Age Policy for Varsity Despite Protest-Minister

The federal government has announced that the age for university admission entry will now be set at 18 years, despite strong opposition from stakeholders.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, at the ongoing JAMB policy meeting and NATAP-M Awards ceremony in Abuja on Thursday.

Amidst protests from attendees at the event, the Minister emphasised that only candidates who have reached the age of 18 will be eligible for admission into tertiary institutions in the country.

He defended the decision by stating that candidates below 18 have been contributing to the crises in universities.

The Minister’s stance aims to address the challenges faced by tertiary institutions, particularly universities. While stakeholders may have expressed their discontent, the government remains resolute in implementing this new policy to improve the quality of education in the country.
