No fewer than three persons reportedly got trapped under the rubbles of an uncompleted multistorey building that collapsed at Ayetoro area of Osogbo, Osun State capital, while two others named Shehu Abubakar and Muktairu Mohammed were rescued from the debris of the structure on Sunday evening.
This was disclosed in a statement by spokesperson of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Osun State Command, Kehinde Adeleke. He explained that two people had been rescued so far while the remaining three were trapped under the rubble, a development that requires the use of a crane to get to the victims.
“While we await the crane, people are doing all they can within the physical human capacity to break the decking and connected rods.”, the NSCDC spokesperson said.
Also speaking, the Osun Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, on Monday (today), disclosed that during rescue operations mounted by security agencies, it was discovered that only two persons were trapped under the rubble of the one-storey building.
The police spokesperson said out of the two persons rescued, one sustained visible injuries while the other was uninjured.
In Opalola’s words, “Part of the rescue activities of the victims of the collapsed building at Sabo area of Osogbo today by the Osun State government. Amotekun led by one Asiwaju were also there.
“Finally, it was discovered that only two (2) persons were trapped and rescued. One sustained no visible injury while the other that sustained injury is responding to treatment in the hospital.”
The governor of the state, Ademola Adeleke had in a reaction through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, issued out a warning to developers and residents against construction of houses without approved building plans.
