UPDATED: Police Dispel Organ Harvesting Reports, Uncover Extortion Scheme at Enugu Hotel

The Enugu State Police Command has dispelled rumors of organ harvesting at a hotel in the state, clarifying that the incident was actually a case of extortion and fraud.

A viral video, had on Sunday surfaced on X Space showing two women allegedly rescued from a hotel room where they were tied up and threatened by two men had sparked fears of organ harvesting.

However, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, debunked these claims, stating, “Preliminary investigation revealed a case of demanding money with menaces and fraud, and not murder or human organs or parts harvesting as being peddled.”

According to the police statement,on Monday, the women, said to be commercial sex workers, met the suspects at a hotel on Agbani Road in Enugu.

The suspects later threatened, beat, and tied up the women in a hotel room, demanding money and obtaining their phones and account details.

It explained that the suspects managed to escape before the victims were rescued, and they fraudulently withdrew a total of ₦120,000 from the victims’ accounts.

The police have recovered a bag containing two kitchen knives and sportswear left behind by the suspects and are currently conducting an investigation to apprehend them, the statement disclosed.

In response to the incident, hotel owners and managers have been advised to enhance security measures and thoroughly screen lodgers. Young women have also been cautioned against going out with strangers to prevent falling victim to similar criminal activities.
