The national electricity grid has experienced another system failure, leading to darkness enveloping the entire country.
The present power outage will be the fourth time in 2024 the country will experience the nationwide total blackout.
While confirming the blackout in a statement on Saturday, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) said the power outage being experienced within its franchise is due to a system failure from the national grid.
“Please be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure from the national grid at 3:10pm today, affecting the power supply to our franchise areas,” the AEDC said.
A check conducted on the website of Independent System Operator, an autonomous arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) showed that power plants’ contribution to the grid began to decline around 2 pm to 2,797.16MW from the average 3,417.99MW around 1pm before it further plummeted to 1,020.08 around 3pm before dramatically falling to 0.80 by 4pm.
Today’s outage is the fourth power grid collapse the country will experience in 2024.
It will be recalled that electricity grid on February 4, collapsed for the first time in 2024. Also, it went down again on March 28.
The third time Nigerians were thrown into darkness was in April 15, 2024 after the grid collapsed.
