NHIA, Stakeholders Agree on New Medicine Pricing Structure

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and stakeholders have reached an agreement on a new medicine and services pricing structure during a stakeholders’ engagement in Abuja.

In a statement on Wednesday, the acting Director of Media and Public Relations at NHIA, Emmanuel Ononokpono, announced the decision, which includes a 60% increase in capitation and a 40% upward review in Fee-For-Service payments to healthcare providers.

The new tariffs, effective immediately, apply to current services under NHIA, pending the outcome of ongoing actuarial studies expected in September.

Representatives from various healthcare sectors endorsed a six-point communique with resolutions, emphasizing transparency and quarterly meetings to align with sector developments.

NHIA Director General Dr. Kelechi Ohiri highlighted the authority’s commitment to affordable and quality healthcare for enrollees.

He urged stakeholders to prioritize the interests of Nigerians in achieving universal health coverage.

Dr. Ohiri emphasized the importance of stakeholders’ cooperation, stating, “NHIA does not take its stakeholders for granted. We always appreciate their collaboration within the context of achieving the goal of Universal Health Coverage.”
