WHO Donates Pharmaceutical Support to Tackle Cholera Outbreak

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has provided pharmaceutical support to the Lagos State Government as it grapples with a cholera outbreak at the Kirikiri prison, with 25 recorded cases.

The Commissioner for Health, Prof Akin Abayomi, on Monday in statement sighted by Africa Health Report announced the donation and highlighted the success of implemented intervention measures.

“We were able to supply Kirikiri Medium Prison with intravenous fluids, infection prevention and other health consumables,” said Abayomi.

The WHO also donated 10,000 doses of pharmaceuticals to the prison, allowing the health facilities to implement prevention strategies for approximately 3,200 inmates.

The outbreak was attributed to unregulated street beverages and contaminated water supplies, according to Abayomi. The urgent intervention measures have helped to control the outbreak.
