FG Implements UBE Effective Schools Programme in 111 Schools to Improve Learning

The Federal Government has taken a step towards addressing the challenges of the learning crisis and out-of-school children in Nigeria by implementing the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Effective Schools Programme in 111 selected schools nationwide.

This initiative aims to equip Nigerian children with the necessary tools for better learning outcomes and 21st-century knowledge acquisition.

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of UBEC, announced this development on Monday during a meeting with state Universal Basic Board officials and head teachers of the designated schools in Abuja.

He emphasized the importance of providing children at the basic education level with the resources they need to succeed academically.

According to Professor Bala Zakari, representing Dr. Bobboyi, the implementation of the UBE Effective Schools Programme includes the distribution of instructional materials, provision of tablets, installation of Satellite-Based learning equipment, and training of teachers in ICT pedagogy.

“These efforts have proved to be very rewarding in laying a solid foundation for the commencement of the implementation of the ESP initiative,” he said.

The Director of Social Mobilization at UBEC,Dr. Ossom Ossom, highlighted the crucial role of headteachers in ensuring the effectiveness of the programme. He acknowledged the challenges ahead and stressed the importance of their contribution to the success of the UBE Effective Schools Programme.
