The Ogun State Government has confirmed that the outbreak of cholera has claimed the life of a 62-year-old woman with five persons hospitalised.
The Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, said the incident happened in Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government Area.
The Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association in Ogun State, Kunle Ashimi, on Thursday, acknowledged the widespread impact of cholera, affecting 30 states across the country, including Ogun.
He expressed condolences for the victims in a statement, stating, “As of today, cholera has been reported in 30 states, including Ogun State, with at least 30 deaths nationwide. We pray for the souls of the departed”.
Ashimi also revealed that the NMA is on red alert and that the government has provided a contact number for reporting new cases.
