IDF Urges Against Increase of CKD Among Diabetes Patients

The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) urges against an increase in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) among diabetes patients as estimate reaches 40%.

CKD is currently one of the most prominent causes of death and suffering and due to the rise in risk factors in diabetes patients, the number of CKD has also increased to about 850 million individuals worldwide making CKD a globally leading cause of mortality worldwide.

Prior to Africa Health Report (AHR) on deteriorating health of poor diabetic as the prices of drug increases, this resonates IDF data of 43,375 people aged 20-79 who died from diabetes in Nigeria in 2021, chronic kidney disease becoming a public health concern as study show that 57.1% of CKD patients were diabetic patients.
