The Kaduna State Government has reported the staggering N4 billion annual spending on school feeding to combat the rising number of out-of-school children in the state.
The Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on School Feeding, Dr Fauziya Buhari-Ado, who made the disclosure on Sunday in a statement sighted by Africa Health Report emphasised the positive impact of the program, stating, “No fewer than 25,000 students in 51 boarding schools across the 23 local government areas benefit from the programme.
Highlighting the economic benefits, Buhari-Ado noted, “The initiative has boosted school enrolment, attendance rates, and local economies by sourcing food locally.”
He emphasised the importance of compliance with menu guidelines and food quality standards, mentioning the transparent verification of beneficiaries that has saved the state millions of naira.
Buhari-Ado praised Governor Sani’s commitment to the well-being of Kaduna State residents through the successful school feeding program.
He emphasized the unity fostered among children from diverse backgrounds, stating, “Our children thrive together, sleep together, eat together, and study together with no differences, showcasing the strength of our state.”
He further highlighted the economic impact of the program, creating opportunities for local vendors and suppliers while stimulating growth in local economies. Buhari-Ado proudly stated, “Kaduna State stands tall in providing free meals to our future leaders, serving about 20 million free meals yearly.”
