Ex-President, Muhammadu Buhari felicitates with Nigerians who are celebrating Sallah and has tasked Nigerians to return to farming as hunger occasioned by food shortage and inflation bites harder.
Buhari gave the advice as he felicitated Muslims on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir.
This was contained in a statement by former presidential aide, Shehu Garba on Sunday after Eid prayers in Katsina, his home state.
Buhari urges Nigerians to grow more food and use home made products while raising concern against unchecked population increase, “There is a need for greater discussion and awareness about this problem, as well as need to invest more in education” the statement partly reads.
Speaking to Journalists, Buhari encourages the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program as a scheme to continue a strong relationship of holding the country together and encourages successive administration to strengthen it and congratulate General Yakubu Gown for its inception.
The ex-president was however silent on the escalating insecurity in the country which has forced many farmers to flee their farmlands for safety.
Africa Health Report (AHR) has reported that insecurity was behind the current food price hike and scarcity. Hundreds of farmers have been killed or abducted for ransom in the northern region of the country. Also, several clashes between cattle herders and farmers have left many farmers abandoning the farming.
