Kano State Govt’s Free Meals for Pilgrims Outrageous

The Kano State Government’s decision to provide free meals twice daily to pilgrims in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj exercise has sparked outrage among critics.

The move, seen as excessive and unnecessary, has drawn sharp criticism from various quarters.

According to Shuaibu Ibrahim, the Head of Media Team for Kano State pilgrims, in a statement made available to newsmen on Saturday, the meals are being offered to ensure the well-being and comfort of the pilgrims. He stated, “The meals, which are prepared by a team of experienced chefs, are nutritious and delicious, and are served in a clean and hygienic environment.”

In addition to the meals, the state government has deployed a medical team to provide round-the-clock medical care to the pilgrims. This team, consisting of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, is stationed at the pilgrims’ camp in Mecca.

He added that an environmental team has been deployed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the pilgrims’ environment. This team, comprising sanitation experts and environmental health officers, is tasked with ensuring the camp remains free from diseases.

Despite the government’s claims of promoting the welfare of its citizens, the extravagant gesture has been met with skepticism. Critics argue that such lavish spending on pilgrims raises questions about the government’s priorities and allocation of resources.
