Nurses, Midwives, Health Workers Join Indefinite Nationwide Strike

In a notice of an indefinite nationwide strike, the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives NANNM Federal Medical Centre Gusau, Zamfara State Chapter, has announced its readiness to join the NLC/TUC- led nationwide workers’ strike. In a press release issued on Monday by Comrade Salisu Abubakar, PRO Unit, for secretary, the association notified the management that it complied with Labour directive to embark on the strike.

“We have directed our members to join the strike with effect from 10 am today”, the statement made available to Africa Health Report read.

Africa Health Report spoke to a specialist, Dr. Lasaka who is a psychiatrist in the Federal Medical Center Jabi, Abuja who affirmed that all departments of the hospital are still functioning pending strike action

“All wards are functioning including the emergency wards and patients are being attended to” he affirmed.

Our Reporter interviewed a worker, Miss Yemi Antadu who is in charge of the antenatal ward at the Primary Health Center in Pigba Sama, Apo, Abuja who assured that they are not affected by the strike and as of today, all nursing mothers were attended to.

“We are active as the strike did not in any way affect the functionality of the primary health care center” she assured.
