The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) is ramping up investigations into the increasing food prices in Nigerian markets due to suspicions of misconduct among market players.
This information was disclosed in a statement by the FCCPC on Wednesday and shared with Africa Health Report AHR.
The Head of the FCCPC Lagos Office, Suzzy Onwuka, led a team to engage with marketers and traders’ associations in Lagos State to understand the reasons behind the escalating food prices.
Similar investigations are being conducted in Rivers State under the guidance of South-South Zonal Coordinator Uchegbu Chukwuma, aiming to uncover the factors contributing to the continuous increase in food costs.
In Lagos, investigations at Mile 12 International Perishable Market and Oke-Odo Market in Agbado/Oke-Odo LCDA involved gathering firsthand information from market union leaders, sellers, and consumers to address the situation, according to the statement.
