Tobacco Kills 8 Million People Globally- WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) data shows tobacco kills more than 8 million people each year and 75% is from developing countries including an estimated 1.3 million non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke.

Tobacco is a plant with leaves that have high levels of the addictive chemical nicotine. Dried tobacco leaves are mainly used for smoking in cigarettes and cigars as well as pipes and sishas.

According to the Statista data, the revenue generated in Nigeria’s tobacco products market is estimated to reach US$2.0bn in 2024 and Nigeria has about 5 million youth who are addicted to smoking, thereby endangering their lives.
