DHQ Denies Gov’s Allegations of Military Involvement in Terrorism Activities

The Defence Headquarters has responded to allegations made by the Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Radda, claiming that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) are aiding and profiting from terrorism activities in the state.

In a statement given to Africa Health Report by the Director Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, on Wednesday, the AFN strongly refuted these claims and called on the Governor to substantiate his allegations.

“The AFN is subservient to all elected government representatives and regards the relationship with utmost respect,” Major General Buba stated. “Rather than engaging in a war of words, we encourage the Governor to approach the military high command to provide evidence for his allegations.”

Major General Buba emphasised that the AFN, led by Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has a zero tolerance policy for indiscipline and any form of criminality within its ranks. “We have standing court martials to deal with any misconduct by troops, particularly those that bring the military into disrepute,” he added.

Undeterred by the Governor’s allegations, the military remains committed to its operations and the fight against terrorism. “Such statements capable of demoralizing or dampening the spirit of troops will not discourage us,” Major General Buba asserted.

The AFN called on Nigerian citizens to take ownership of the Armed Forces and to report any observed misconduct within its ranks. “We urge citizens to report any credible instances of bad conduct so that appropriate military justice can be served,” said General Buba.
