WAHO, France Collaborate to Reduce Mortality Rates in West Africa

The West African Health Organization (WAHO) collaborates with France to reduce the mortality rate in Africa.

This was initiated by the French Development Agency (AFD) with aim to invest 4.5 million euros to reduce mortality rate.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Maternal mortality in Nigeria remains one of the highest globally, it was revealed that Nigeria accounted for 12 percent of global maternal deaths, stillbirths and neonatal deaths

This high prevalence of maternal death in the country has been linked to inequities in access to health services during pregnancy and childbirth.

Macrotend 2024 report shows Nigeria death toll at 10.833%

Melchior  Athanase, the Director General of WAHO and Xavier Muron, the director of AFD in Abuja both emphasize on the project as a way reducing mortality rate in West Africa through “One Health” while focusing on pivotal areas such as, epidemic prevention, public health workforce quality, communicable disease control, maternal and child health, emergency management and gender equality.
