UPDATED: Intelligence Officers Deployed to Banex Market Over Soldiers/Traders Clash-Police

The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has sent intelligence officers to Banex, a market in Abuja that specializes in electronics and telecommunication devices. This action was taken after a clash occurred between soldiers and traders on Saturday.

Viral videos posted on X on Saturday captured civilians overpowering some soldiers in a free-for-all fight at Banex.

David, a trader, explained to Africa Health Report that the conflict originated from a disagreement over the sale of a cellphone.

When contacted about the development, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the Commissioner of Police, Benett Igweh, had deployed officers from the FCT Intelligence Response Team to the scene. “The CP has deployed the Intelligence Response Team to the scene,” Adeh confirmed.

Miss Ene, another witness, also confirmed the incident to our Reporter, stating, “I can’t really tell what brought about the fight between them, but when I was going home after work, I saw about seven Army vans blocking the front of Banex. No one could move back or go forward, and I’m sure that plaza is going to be shut down for some time.”
