Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, announced at the Africa CEO Forum Annual Summit in Kigali that the Dangote Refinery’s plan will eliminate the need for Nigeria to import gasoline by June, 2024.
Dangote emphasised the refinery’s capability to meet the diesel and petrol needs of West Africa and the aviation fuel demand of the entire African continent.
Dangote stated, “Nigeria shouldn’t import anything like gasoline; not one drop of a litre,” highlighting the refinery’s progress in reducing Africa’s dependence on imports.
He outlined the refinery’s capacity to supply diesel to West Africa and Central Africa, aviation fuel to the entire continent, and even export to Brazil and Mexico.
The African billionaire expressed his vision for Africa’s self-sufficiency, aiming to produce raw materials locally to meet the continent’s demands. Dangote projected that Africa would no longer need to import fertilizer within three to four years, emphasising the refinery’s role in achieving this goal.
Reflecting on his investment in Africa and the completion of the massive refinery, Dangote emphasised the importance of producing finished products locally to create jobs and reduce poverty.
He detailed the refinery’s current production of jet fuel and diesel, with gasoline production set to begin next month, catering not only to Nigeria but also to West, Central, and South Africa.
