International Family Day: UN Urges Focus on Families, Climate

World International Family Day which is annually celebrated by the United Nations since 1980 is a way to create awareness among decision makers of the problems and needs of a family.

The United Nations titled this year’s Family International Day: Families and Climate Change which echoes the negative impacts of climate on the health and well-being of families through increased pollution, extreme weather events exacerbated by climate change, such as hurricanes, droughts and floods, heat, often lead to forced displacement and loss of livelihoods for families and individuals and diseases.

World International Family Day for May 15th, 2024 focuses on the need to raise awareness of how climate change impacts families and the role families can play in climate action. Through family and community initiatives.

Prior to Africa Health Report, Zamfara State is currently battling with strange disease which according to the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Aisha Anka is caused by Contaminated Water.

According to the World Bank, Climate Change could result in loss of 6% to 30% in Nigeria’s GDP by 2050. This can affect family development and changes in rainfall patterns over the years can contribute to the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
