Prior to Africa Health Report (AHR) on Housing deficit in Nigeria and Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) recent data that housing deficit is 28 million units in January 2023 and this means, 28 million people are homeless.
Odua’s Investment Company Limited, via its subsidiary Wemabod Estate Limited, aims to address housing shortages by constructing 1000 units spread across the six states in Nigeria’s South West region.
This was disclosed in a statement by the group Chairman of Odua Company Limited, Bimbo Ashiru at the Ground breaking of Aurora Westlink Estate Ikeja.
“We intend to achieve this in the next two or three years, presently we are building housing schemes in Ikorodu, Epe, Ekiti, Oyo, Ondo, Lagos but we will later cover the entire state that belong to Odua group”. Ashiru added.
According to an interview conducted by AHR on Housing deficit, Barrister Osigwe Ahmed Momoh stated that only the Federal Government can curtail housing deficit that resulted in a hike in price.
“The feasible solution to curtail hike in rent price in FCT is for the government to partner with real estate agents, give them free lands and quota of houses to be built then subsidise the rate for residents. This can be called Public and Private partnership”. He said.
