Oluremi Tinubu Launches Women Agricultural Support Programme in South-South

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of President Tinubu, has initiated the Renewed Hope Initiative Women Agricultural Support Programme in the South-South geopolitical zone, aiming to empower 120 farmers

At the Government Banquet Hall in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday, May 7, the inauguration ceremony marked the beginning of a transformative journey for women in agriculture.

In her address, Mrs. Tinubu outlined the objectives of the programme, which entails empowering 20 women from each of the six states in the South-South region with a financial grant of N500,000 per beneficiary.

She emphasized the focus on young female farmers engaged in animal husbandry, poultry, and fish farming, with 75% of the beneficiaries falling under this category.

Mrs. Tinubu emphasized collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture to expand support to potential farmers. She stated, “Today, we are supporting 20 women farmers per state in the South-South Zone with the sum of N500,000 each.”

Additionally, Mrs. Tinubu announced the allocation of N10,000,000 per state to be disbursed by the respective first ladies of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers states, who also serve as RHI state coordinators.

The programme doesn’t only focus on women; it extends support to 100 persons living with disabilities engaged in small-scale businesses, with each receiving N100,000 to enhance their ventures.

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State commended Senator Tinubu for her humanitarian efforts, emphasizing the importance of such initiatives in the face of economic challenges.

He highlighted the adoption of similar programmes in the state, including the ARISE Initiative for the Elderly and free voucher food programme.
