On the occasion of Workers’ Day Celebration, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has highlighted the importance of implementing the new minimum wage in light of the current economic challenges.
The association also called for measures to regulate the prices of goods, services, and commodities to complement the upcoming minimum wage.
Lucky Emonefe, the Universal President, NANS, emphasised the significance of this initiative in a statement made available to Africa Health Report on Wednesday.
He expressed the association’s appreciation for the contributions and sacrifices made by Nigerian workers across various sectors to uphold the economy and provide essential services. Emonefe also acknowledged the hardships faced by workers, including poor working conditions, inadequate pay, and job insecurity, particularly in the private sector.
“We urge the government and employers to prioritize the well-being of workers, ensure fair wages, provide safe working environments, and respect workers’ rights. At the same time, workers should continue to strive for excellence in their respective fields and stand united in the pursuit of a better future for all,” Emonefe stated.
