Nigerian Students Demand Immediate Action to End Fuel Crisis

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern call to the Federal government and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) to quickly address the long time fuel shortage plaguing the country.

In a statement released by Senator Akinteye Afeez, President of the Senate at NANS Headquarters, On Monday, the organization expressed grave concern over the escalating hardships faced by students and millions of Nigerians due to the ongoing fuel crisis.

Senator Afeez warned that the student body refuses to accept the fuel crisis as the new normal, emphasizing the detrimental impact it has had on essential services and daily life.

Highlighting the leadership roles of President Bola Tinubu at the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources and Mele Kyari as the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of NNPCL, NANS criticized the current leadership for failing to alleviate the crisis despite assurances.

The statement underscored the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and decisive action from NNPCL to resolve the fuel shortage and restore stability to the nation.

NANS demanded improved infrastructure and logistics to ensure efficient fuel distribution nationwide, urging NNPCL to engage with stakeholders, including student representatives, to address the crisis effectively. Failure to take swift action, the statement warned, could result in calls for the resignation or removal of Mele Kyari from office.

In closing, NANS reiterated its commitment to advocating for the well-being of Nigerian students and citizens, emphasizing the critical role of NNPCL in shaping the nation’s future.
