Protest Looms over DStv’s Planned Subscription Hike as Consumers Mobilize Nigerians

Barring last minutes changes a protest against the planned increase in subscription by the Digital Satellite Television (DStv) broadband, owners of Multichoice, GOtv looms.

Africa Health Report gathered reliably that the protest will begin on Monday, April 29, at the premises of the national Assembly, Abuja.

Our reporter learnt that there is growing anger across the country following the recent announcement DSTV to jack up prices of its packages come May 1, 2024. The rate hike is targeting especially its premium package, which, when it takes effect, will move from N29000 to N37000 and least which is the Xtraview from N4000 to N5000.

Consumers’ anger trended yesterday on social media one of which obtained by Africa Health Report, read, “enough is enough”.

While expressing anger in disapproval of the new rate, the consumers urged Nigerians to join protest.

A X user @nuhu_abok who is the former speaker of Plateau State House of Assembly stated on his page that DStv intended price increase is simple “nonsense” and urges everybody to be part of the protest.

“WE SAY NO TO DSTV nonsense. We are going to start the protest tomorrow at National Assembly Gate pls join us”, he said.

All efforts to reach the DStv for comment or reaction were futile as the numbers displaced on their official website (0909063033, 0708063033, 0811363033), as Customer Service refused to connect, as at the time of filing this report.
