The Kwara State Police Command has intensified security measures to prevent escaped inmates from the Suleija custodial center in neighboring Niger State from entering Kwara or causing harm.
The escape occurred on April 24, 2024, following a heavy rainstorm that damaged the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Suleja, allowing 118 inmates to flee.
In a statement made by the spokesperson of the Kwara command, DSP Ejire Adeyemi Toun, in Ilorin on Sunday, and was obtained by African health report.
She stated that the Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, had confirmed that the command was vigilant and collaborating closely with other agencies to guarantee the safety and security of the state.
“He assures the public that sufficient steps have been taken to prevent escaped inmates from entering the state or causing harm.
“Increased patrols are in place along the border areas, with heightened surveillance at key locations.
“We encourage all residents to stay alert and notify the closest security authority of any dubious behavior. By working together, we can uphold peace and security within our neighborhoods.
“The Kwara State police command is dedicated to safeguarding lives and assets and pledges to be prepared to promptly address any security issues faced by the citizens.
