The National Coordinator of the Counter Terrorism Center, Adamu Garba, speaking at the event, stressed the crucial role of collaboration among various stakeholders, both domestic and international.
“Today, at the Global Community Engagement Resilience Fund’s Country Needs Assessment event, Nigeria takes a significant step in fortifying its defenses against violent extremism”, the counter terrorism boss noted at an event Wednesday.
The event, attended by key organizations involved in preventing and countering violent extremism (PCVE), aimed to assess current projects and plan future investments in Nigeria.
Garba, applauded the impactful contributions of the GCERF in funding evidence-based PCVE initiatives across the nation.
Highlighting the importance of aligning strategies with existing policy frameworks and action plans for PCVE, the National Coordinator emphasized the need to address the root causes of extremism comprehensively. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to coordinating all PCVE efforts through a holistic approach involving both government entities and civil society.
Urging stakeholders to leverage their expertise to enhance collaboration and expand the reach of PCVE efforts, the National Coordinator emphasized the importance of broadening the scope across Nigeria’s regions.
In his closing remarks, the National Coordinator called upon GCERF to increase funding for Nigeria, citing the success of ongoing programs and the imperative for sustainability and local ownership. The event concluded on an optimistic note, with hopes for strengthened community resilience and a safer society.
