Kano State has been ranked as the worst-governed and least-performing state in the country since the new administration took over in May 2023, according to the Center for Democracy and Human Rights (CEDEHUR).
The Center made the claim on Tuesday in Abuja while unveiling its quarterly report on governance across the 18 states with new governors. Stated that the assessment was made based on transparency, accountability, quality of appointees, and impact of policies on the citizens of the 18 states with new governors.
Speaking on behalf of the Centre, Amb. Adebayo Lion Ogorry,
highlighted the issues with governance in Kano State, stating, “Kano is one of the States whose Governor has gotten it wrong on several fronts.” He further added, “From available statistics, the State is enmeshed in a series of political activities that have affected governance considerably.”
The Centre’s report also emphasized that the current administration in Kano focused on political structures to the detriment of the people. Ogorry noted, “It was gathered that the State Governor is bereft of ideas on tackling the State’s socio-economic issues. “It was also gathered that his choice of political appointees was hinged on political considerations and not based on experience and capacity.”
