The Kwara State Government has issued an appeal to the public to remain calm over reports of 33 cows allegedly dying from poisoning and their meat being put up for sale at Mandate Market in Ilorin, the state capita.
The appeal comes after the Kwara Monitoring Group (KMG) raised concerns in a statement, calling on the Commissioners for Environment and Health, as well as the Kwara Environmental Protection Agency, to take immediate action to prevent the distribution of the poisoned meat to unsuspecting consumers.
According to the KMG statement issued on Sunday, and was obtained by African health report, the incident occurred along Atere Road, leading to Al Hikma campus, within the premises of the College of Arabic and Islamic Studies, Ilorin.
The group expressed dismay over the slaughter and distribution of the poisoned animals to butchers for sale, emphasizing the potential danger posed to public health.
“It is our prayer that the concerned ministry and agency take appropriate action as nobody knows whose family the poisoned meat could be sold out to in the market,” the statement read.
The government’s appeal underscores the urgency of the situation and the need for swift action to safeguard public health and prevent any further harm.
