Mosquitoes, humans and snakes have been ranked as three deadliest animals in the world. This was revealed in a recent study by the BBC.
Mosquitoes are ranked as the number one deadliest animal in the world with a record of 725,000 deaths per year through the spread of malaria.
This is made known through a finding by Science Focus report on the BBC in 2023.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), there was a surge in malaria cases globally in 2022, with 249 million cases recorded.
This is a significant increase from the 233 million recorded in 2019 with five countries including Nigeria, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and Uganda.
According to the report, the ranking is on account of the number of deaths caused by each animal across the world every year.
Surprisingly, the animals on this list are not necessarily big and scary like the lions and tigers.
Humans who are also known as the second deadliest animals due to an increasing rate of homicide, record about 400,000 yearly kills.
Snakes with over 138,000 kills ranks third due to instant killing from its venom. Examples are the black mamba and python.
Fourth deadly animals are Dogs recorded over 59,000 annual death tolls through transmission of rabies
Fifthly deadly animals are Assassin Bugs with over 10,000 recorded yearly kills, they are primarily the spreader of the deadly Chagas disease when victims come in contact with food having protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi (T.cruzi). They are in Central and South America.
Sixth deadly animals are Scorpions with 3,300 records kills. They are mostly found in North Africa and the middle East. There are over 2,600 species of the arachnid, only around 25 carry a powerful enough toxin to kill humans.
The seventh deadly animals are crocodiles with over 1,000 reported yearly fatal kills.
The eighth deadly animals are the elephants with over 600 kills. The most advantage is the sheer size of an elephant which one stomp can easily kill.
The ninth deadly animals are the hippopotamus with over 500 human kills per year and it mostly resulted from its aggressive nature and its bite comes with a force of 1,800 psi.
The tenth most deadly animals are the Lions with over 200 humans yearly kills. Though the King of the Jungle has the least kills. With it’s 114dB roar size, it is advisable to not to be messed with.
