Security: Facts about NIN/GMPC

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Friday said that the Federal Government (FG) plans to initiate a General Multipurpose Card (GMPC) to streamline the hectic process of multiple forms of identification.

NIMC explained in a statement circulated to newsmen saying, the new identity card is designed to serve as a solution to different kinds of administrative needs also promising efficiency and Security

Some of the key facts to note about the general multipurpose card, it is a single card with multiple functionalities such as, making financial payment, initiating Government intervention services and travel services.

Further, the General Multipurpose Card (GMPC) will be powered by the AgriGO card Scheme known as the Nigeria Interbank Settlement System (NIBSS) together with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ensure financial use cases.

Furthermore, in order to apply for the GMPC, Applicant will request it with their National Identity Number (NIN) on NIMC self- service portal, offices or respective banks and it will be issued to them through this medium under the protocol used in debit or credit cards collections.

In conclusion, the GMPC can be delivered to applicants at designated centers or at the applicant’s requested location which will be at the applicant’s cost.
