India-Bound Passenger Ingests 80 Wraps of Cocaine, Arrested in Lagos Airport-NDLEA

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency(NDLEA), has  apprehended Freeman Charles Ogbonna, a passenger bound for Delhi, India, at the screening area of terminal 2 at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for swallowing 80 wraps of cocaine.

The information was revealed in a press release by Femi Babafemi, the director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters in Abuja, on Sunday.

According to the statement, Ogbonna was apprehended on Sunday, March 31st as he tried to board a flight to Delhi, India through Qatar Airways, using a Liberian passport under the name Carr Bismark. During a body scan, it was discovered that he had ingested illegal drugs.

“Initial investigations confirmed that he was indeed Freeman Charles Ogbonna, and he was then detained by the NDLEA for further monitoring.

“He began showing signs of distress, likely due to the large amount of drugs in his stomach and a substance to prevent excretion. Eventually, he started to vomit and pass out wraps of cocaine that he had swallowed almost at the same time.

“Despite the dangerous risk that could have cost his life, Ogbonna, who alleged he was coerced by a family member into drug trafficking, managed to excrete a total of 80 wraps of cocaine, weighing 889 grams, through his mouth and anus over four days. He claimed he was instructed to swallow the drugs at a hotel in Ipodo, Ikeja, with a promise of a cash reward of N300,000 upon successful delivery of the consignment in India.”
